چکیده
Facial eczema, a disease of sheep and, to a lesser extent, of cattle, has long been known in the North Island, New Zealand. The disease is contracted by grazing in pastures infected with the fungus Pithomyces chartarum (Commonwealth Mycological Institute Herbarium no. 74473). Synge & White (1959) isolated from cultures of this fungus a metabolic product which they named sporidesmin. Crystalline sporidesmin was prepared (Done, Mortimer, Taylor & Russell, 1961; Ronaldson, Taylor, White & Abraham, 1963) and experimental poisoning of normal sheep was found to be similar to field cases of facial eczema in sheep (Done, Mortimer & Taylor, 1960). Publications on the experimental sporidesmin poisoning of sheep have dealt with clinical and post-mortem observations (Mortimer & Taylor, 1962), with biochemical changes in some serum constituents (Done, Mortimer & Taylor, 1962), with haematological and liver-function disturbances (Mortimer, 1962), and with histological and histochemical observations (Mortimer, 1963). The pathological and biochemical changes that

An evaluation of some oxidative and enzymatic biomarkers in different stages of naturally occurring copper poisoning in sheep
BACKGROUND: The early stage of Copper poisoning is difficult to be clinically diagnosed in sheep and has not been documented clearly yet. OBJECTIVES: To assess biomarkers in predicting early Copper poisoning in sheep, blood samples were collected from several groups of animals from a naturally Copper poisoning occurrence in an industrial region. METHODS: Animals were divided into four experimen...
متن کاملRelationship between liver lipid and liver dry matter in slaughtered ruminants
Lipids in liver wet and dry matter, liver moist and dry matter and their relationships were investigated based on species, sex and age in cows, buffaloes, sheep and goats. Mean percentage of lipids in liver wet and dry matter and liver dry matter in cows were 3.60%, 1.10%, 29.70%, and for buffaloes were 5.30%, 1.55%, 29.20%, sheep 3.00%, 0.83%, 27.90%, and goats 2.910%, 1.55% and 28.40%, respec...
متن کاملSeasonal Variation and Relationships Between Copper of Serum and Various Tissues in Copper Poisoned Sheep in Kerman Province, Iran
Background: Soil and plant contamination in copper exposure causes chronic copper poisoning (CCP) in animals following the consumption of plants in these soils. Objectives: The present study was carried out on 10 clinically affected copper poisoned cases (in each season) from autumn 2015 to the end of summer 2016, in four seasons in Kerman province to evaluate the seasonal effects of CCP in she...
متن کاملTHE EFFECT OF SILYMARIN ON DECREASING THE ELEVATED LEVELS OF LIVER ENZYMES AND EARLY OUTCOME IN PATIENTS WITH DRUG POISONING ADMITTED IN INTENSIVE CARE UNIT
Background & Aims: Poisoning as an important dilemma of public health. In this study, we investigated the effects of Silymarin on decreasing elevated levels of liver enzymes and early outcome in patients with drug poisoning admitted to the intensive care unit. Material & Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 65 patients with poisoning were evaluated during 1394. The patients’ demographic info...
متن کاملEffect of processed fish wastes supplementation on blood biochemical and meat composition of broiler chicken
The experiment was conducted on forty five broiler chickens at 4 weeks of age, for a period of threeweeks, to assess the effect of complete replacement of fish meal with processed fish wastes (fish waste acidsilage and surimi waste powder) on the blood protein, lipid and antioxidant status in broiler chicken, eventhough an earlier study indicated that this replacement induced normal growth rate...
